The Austrian Ecolabel
The Austrian Ecolabel was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1990. We were the first museum to be awarded this eco-label, which is a great achievement for us.
Sustainability at KunstHausWien
Environmental protection is an integral part of our operations and day-to-day work, and is reflected in the museum's content. All processes are regularly checked for environmental compatibility and optimised where necessary. Those interested in the specific measures, ranging from purchasing and exhibitions to restaurant offerings and shop products, can find detailed information on our sustainability concept here.
We were officially awarded the eco-label
A milestone in our efforts was the award of the Austrian Ecolabel on 13 September 2018, which made KunstHausWien the first museum to receive this award. Previously, it was primarily reserved for businesses in the events, tourism and education sectors.
The opportunity to officially certify museums and exhibition centres was initiated by KunstHausWien in cooperation with ICOM Austria (the Austrian National Committee of the International Council of Museums). Thanks to this collaboration, the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism was able to develop a catalogue of criteria for awarding the seal of approval to museums.
